Laundry stain removal

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Let’s be honest here. We’ve all had clothing that has been hopelessly stained. Tried all the known products on the supermarket or big-mart (you know who I mean) shelves. Maybe the stain lightens a bit – but it is still RIGHT THERE and very visible. Most of us have many, MANY products under our sinks that have NOT worked. It is not about price – but it IS about performance.

Well, several friends have reported great success, using Lloyd’s All Purpose Cleaner. And it is not difficult or complicated to use. Just a spray or several (depending on the size or number of stains) before laundering. You might want to let it sit a few minutes before tossing into the laundry; and if the stain is very deep, try spraying and rubbing with a white terrycloth towel first, then re-spraying just before tossing into the washing machine. Use the coolest temperature possible, which will also avoid “setting” the stain.

This next step is pretty important: BEFORE you put the just-washed garment (or towel or sheet) into the dryer, examine it. If the stain still shows faintly, let the garment air dry. Then examine it again – and if it still shows, treat it once again with Lloyd’s and wash it once more.

A friend in Texas’s Hill Country – a lovely region that you should visit if you ever have the chance – had a nasty encounter with the red dye that is used in the concentrate for hummingbird nectar. She had a tank top that she thought was hopelessly stained. But what the heck… she thought she’d try the Lloyd’s All Purpose Cleaner. Gave the tank top a couple of spritzes, waited a bit, spritzed a bit more and threw it in the wash. And wonder of wonders! A clean tank top.

Another case where the above steps were NOT followed – but the results were still great. An entire slice of cheese cake, topped with the usual cherries and cherry-sauce ended up in the lap of a woman who was wearing white jeans. White jeans, folks! She liberally sprayed the entire dessert-in-a-lap area and tossed it into the laundry basket. She did not wash the jeans until the next day – and was astounded to find NO TRACE of the beautiful red cherries on those jeans!

And the final example comes from Lloyd himself. He was having dinner at a nice restaurant  on a Friday evening, and a full glass of pinot noir was on his left side, closer to the edge of the table. A waiter was reaching across the table, positioning a dessert dish in front of him. The “perfect spill” happened, as the waiters arm tipped the full glass of wine directly toward Lloyd, spilling the entire glass’s contents onto his shirt. By coincidence, Lloyd was scheduled to film a video on some of his products that Sunday.  So the red wine-stained shirt became a prop for that video. And following that video, the shirt was washed — and of course the wine was completely gone!

So give this product a try — and try it also on non-laundry stains, too!
